Bengal Florican Display
Bengal Florican (Houbaropsis bengalensis), Manas National Park, Assam, India
The Bengal Florican is a critically endangered bustard restricted to grasslands in South and Southeast Asia. Males perform spectacular aerial displays during the breeding season, in which they puff up their neck feathers and jump into the air. They jump infrequently, and I was very lucky that it jumped in the direction orthogonal to me. Unfortunately, I had the wrong AF mode on my camera, and the bird went out-of-focus when it passed in front of some trees. Still, there are very few photos of this bird in display.
